I am finally coming down from my amazing trip to Aruba. I spend 6 day 5 nights surrounded by ombre water, clear skies, palm trees and all the cocktails I could consume. Aruba was good to me. My BFF and I have not been on vacation together since early 2000 so it was great connecting with him and his beautiful family in such a space. Walks on the beach, floating on rafts in the ocean, jumping off the side of a boat to snorkel, eating good food and not a care in the world. What a blessing the trip was and if I could go back every month for a week, I most certainly would.
“Greatness is contagious, you’ll catch it if you get around it.” -Bishop TD Jakes
As soon as I heard those words come out of the Bishop’s mouth I was on my feet doing a praise clap. Greatness is contagious, and its very similar to healthy competition. When you are the best in your circle of influence its very easy to get complacent; to some degree you’re winning (cue Charlie Sheen). However, when you get around those who are truly living and working in their purpose and begin to trade ideas with them you will more than likely find that you aren’t working to your full capacity. Their influence in your life unleashes something greater within you.
What a fast paced world we live in. Gosh, when I was 16 and gas was $2.25 a gallon I had a cell phone with pre-paid minutes and only used it if someone “beeped” me. I wasn’t trying to be the next BIG fashion blogger, or YouTube sensation; and while I didn’t have to compete for online space, I did have to compete to maintain my “cool kid” status at school, lol. Fast forward to 2012, I’m connected with an Ipad, Ipod, Macbook, Twitter, FB, Tumblr, Pinterest, Blog, Instagram, the list is endless. I don’t know about you, but I feel increasing pressure to be productive at all times. To keep up with technology and make sure I’m constantly connected. I was reading a post over at The John Maxwell Company and he mentioned Permission to Disconnect. AHA!
Sometimes people annoy me. Its inevitable. No matter how deep I get in my spiritual practice their will be one or more people that I encounter that will irritate me; and in turn teach me whatever lesson I am to learn. But in an effort to continue to grow professionally I have had to rethink my career aspirations. Rethink my vision so that the choices I make here on out align with my destiny. Quite frankly, some professional associations are getting on my nerves.
Frankly happiness is a choice, and the truth of the matter is you dont have to feel happy to act happy. Just like you don’t have to feel confident to act confident. This is where that good ole saying “fake it til you make it” comes to mind. Below are 5 ways to instantly get happy!
Earlier I was listening to a bonus CD from the inside of the January 2012 issue of Success Magazine. Each issue includes what they call an “Achiever’s Pack.” Inside the achievers pack are 2 CD’s, one with interviews with top experts on topics such as Leadership, Branding, Motivation, etc. The other disc consists of summaries from popular books on the same subjects. This particular CD the interviewee spoke briefly about – Emotional Maturity and it was an AHA! moment for me.
I’ll have wrapped my first film!!! I did my first play last September/October (Off Broadway) and now I’m working on a Indie film. I’ve been pretty busy the last week or so preparing for this role, doing consulting work and trying to maintain my sanity with everything else. I also went on another audition 2 Saturdays ago, and yesterday I got the call for the role. Honestly, I could not be more excited. www.TheChicMotivator.com website is undergoing some changes and expanding, Im finalizing the editorial calendar for the next few months, going full throttle now. So expect a lot more introspection, a lot more of me and what makes me unique.
1. The Sassy Mouthed friend
This is the friend that goes “we don’t believe you, you need more people” When she tells you what’s on her mind it just might sting. Her motto is rip off the band-aid and get it over with. Her own situation might not be the best, but she is saying what most of your friends and maybe even family are thinking.
